The Youth Business and Professional Development Program
Inspiring school aged students to become young, professional business owners
In November 2024, the Business Services division launched the Youth Business and Professional Development Program aimed to help middle school students expand their current thinking about the future and become future business owners.
The intense six week curriculum helped the diverse group of economically disadvantaged public school students establish leadership and professionalism skills session.
Each week, the students were presented a lesson introducing the students to new business vocabulary, and fun, relatable business activities to help them make real world business decisions.
The student business owners enjoyed fun and relatable activities that enabled them to create their business, determine their customer, choose their products, identify their market, industry, and competition, earn funds, track their funding, and write checks and balance their business bank accounts.
The student business owners had their business headshots taken by a professional photographer, participated in their student business owners' Executive Board meeting and all had the opportunity to serve as underwriters on Investment Day, where students took advantage of the opportunity to earn funding for their business.
by the end of the program, the student business owners had all completed their business plans and had experienced exponential growth in business development and professional conduct.
The program culminated with a grand business competition. The top student business owner received a business competition certificate, recognition by the school's principal during the school's afternoon announcements, and a Visa gift card to spend on himself.
