Regardless of your background, you are welcome to ASCEND!
ASCEND Community Partners is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational rehabilitation organization. We were formed to transform communities by assisting individuals who suffer from low literacy or lack the strong ability to read, write, and spell.
According to a recent study, approximately thirty-five million Americans under the age of 65 have reading skills below those of the fourth grade (or low literacy skills). Though White U.S.-born Americans make up the largest population of individuals with low literacy skills in the United States, nearly one-third of the African American population of adults have low literacy skills. We're not simply looking to educate we're looking to empower.
Low literacy cannot be identified by gender, race or economic or educational status. There are people with degrees and leaders in their profession who suffer from the inability to read, write and spell. Despite the background, if an individual desires to learn, we desire to teach them. ASCEND collaboratively works to help mend literacy skills that may have been lost or underdeveloped during a person’s educational development process.
Though we have expanded our services to serve businesses, we endeavor to serve individuals dealing with low literacy, who desires to learn. If they desire to learn, we desire to teach them. Though our activities and locations are geared toward making services easily accessible to individuals living in economically disadvantaged communities, our services are open and available to all races and ethnicities. We endeavor to treat each and every individual who approach our organization with consistent dignity and respect, regardless of their race, background or economic status.
As of today, ASCEND has served individuals from as young as 6 years old to as senior as 80 years old, who were deprived or restricted of their opportunity to learn due to circumstances frequently beyond their control. We specialize in providing one-on-one support, personalized workshops, private team sessions, and other customized business solutions to help our clients in our communities get their personal literacy and business goals accomplished.
From our inception, our mission has been to abolish the repressive stigmas that are frequently associated with an individual’s the inability to read, write, and spell.
Our vision is to establish programs that assist individuals in building skills and relationships that lead to better jobs, a better way of life, and a community of more self-confident, self-improved citizens.
ASCEND Community Partners Inc. defines educational rehabilitation as services that address: the conditions that cause low literacy, optimize a person's literacy functions, and/or reduce a person's inability to read, write, and spell.
ASCEND offers programs that identify the gaps in literacy skill, restore the breach in understanding, then rebuild on a repaired and solid educational foundation.
